A few friends with a love for music; an old guitar and a basement full of friends – Fallen Year (formerly known as Dilan Dog) was formed in 1995. Fallen Year is a four-piece punk rock band from Brampton made up of Paul Benoit (guitar, vocals), Matt Del Buono (bass, vocals), John Lane (guitar), and Adam Nimmo (drums). The band has taken their basement show to the stage and captured the audience with their driving rhythm section and sing-along vocal lines heavily influenced by musical acts like The Queers, Screeching Weasel, Ramones, Bad Religion, Lag wagon, and Propagandhi.
Like many young bands, their financial resources were limited but a tape deck, two microphones and the infamous basement was the birthplace of their debut album, “Heart Lake Punk Rock”. The album proved to be a big success locally and allowed the act to graduate from basement to live venue.
A new chapter began in Fallen Year’s legacy on January 4th, 2000 at a Punk Fest show that included many known local acts. It was the biggest audience the band ever played in front of but it wouldn’t be the last. A mini tour of Western Canada followed that included cities like Winnipeg and Calgary.
In 2003, the band was ready to take their art to a higher level. It began with the band changing their name from Dilan Dog to Fallen Year. The band will continue to rock all over the province and have plans of a cross-Canada tour dipping into the United States in July-August of 2003. Their intense, crazy, charismatic live show reflects the energy and dedication this band has maintained over the years. Like finely aged wine they only get better with time.
Fallen Year will be releasing their first album under their new name in early 2003. The 6-song EP titled “To Breathe Again” will prove to everyone that the success of Dilan Dog will not falter under the newly named Fallen Year.
Fallen Year strives to rid the world of boring music by playing with such
precision and intensity that one will be forced to lose themselves entirely. There is no stopping Fallen Year now, and with every show, and every album, the only way they can give back to everyone is the only way they know how – “rock n’ friggin’ roll”.
